The Most Romantic Weekend Getaways In California
Juliana Daniel Updated on Jan 31, 2023

You will be spoiled for choice in California's stunning attractions and romantic resorts if you are looking for a perfect weekend vacation to spend time alone with the one you love. These ideal weekend trips will have you packing in no time.

Big Sur

For many years, those living in the Los Angeles and San Francisco metropolitan areas have flocked to Big Sur to escape the rat race and enjoy a quiet retreat. It is on a beautiful coastline reminiscent of the Mediterranean and is sometimes called California's own Italian Riviera.

Several high-end hotels are in the vicinity, including the famously romantic Post Ranch Inn, which features infinity pools overlooking the Pacific. Pfeiffer State Beach, located nearby, is home to one of the world's rarest beaches, thanks to its uncommon purple sand.

The manganese garnet deposits in the waves give the sand its distinctive purple colour, which stands in striking contrast to the Pacific Ocean.

Mendocino

The gorgeous coastal village of Mendocino is located around three hours north of San Francisco, on majestic rocky cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Due to its stunning beauty, the community of Mendocino has been compared to the coast of Ireland.

The countryside is dotted with opulent Victorian houses designed in the New England style, and there are miles of hiking trails that lead to beautiful vantage points of the ocean. You may spend your days strolling along picture-perfect beaches, trekking through forests filled with towering redwood trees, or going wine tasting at one of the numerous vineyards in the area.

The National Park of Joshua Tree

You might feel like you've entered another universe after only a two-hour journey from Los Angeles. With its many outdoor activities, Joshua Tree National Park is a great spot to escape the hustle and bustle of a major metropolis.

Take in its otherworldly landscape, filled by seemingly unending groves of Joshua trees known for their unusual shapes and massive boulders reaching hundreds of feet into the sky. It has a wide variety of great walks and excellent nighttime astronomy.

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park is a fantastic destination for nature enthusiasts like you and your partner. It's the ideal place for a romantic retreat in the great outdoors, with seemingly endless waterfalls, towering peaks, and steep granite cliffs.

Stay at the historic Ahwahnee Hotel, whose lobby is adorned with a crackling fire in the big fireplace and boasts breathtaking views of Half Dome, Glacier Point, and Yosemite Falls.

The hike to Vernal Falls is one of the most significant ways to see the park. As you climb the 600 granite stairs to the waterfall, the falling waters will shower their soothing mist and produce brilliant rainbows.

Napa Valley

For foodies and wine lovers, Napa Valley is a no-brainer. Although the area has long been known for its beautiful vineyards and wineries, in recent years, it has become a favourite gastronomic destination because of its developing food scene, which is gradually catching up to and surpassing the quality of its famed drink.

You may go on a hot air balloon ride at sunrise, among many other exciting activities. The Auberge du Soleil Resort is perfect for a honeymoon or romantic getaway.

San Diego's Coronado Island

Coronado Beach, located on the northern end of San Diego's "Enchanted Isle," is often considered the most excellent beach in the United States. It's hard to believe that this picture-perfect beach, with its fluffy sand that shimmers from the minerals it contains, is genuine. The historic Hotel del Coronado, with its bright red turrets and this picturesque beachfront setting, is an excellent choice for a romantic holiday for beach-loving couples

A San Francisco

The City by the Bay has gorgeous landscapes, lovely strolls, delicious food, world-class museums, and many attractions, making it the ideal romantic escape for people who wish to enjoy nature and a wide variety of cultural activities.

Take a romantic stroll across the Golden Gate Bridge, and you'll be treated to one of the world's most breathtaking views—the metropolitan skyline, the sparkling Pacific, and Alcatraz Island.

Top off your trip with a sunset sail beneath the famous bridge or at the Top of the Mark, located on the 19th floor of the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel, and feast on the artisanal cuisine that can be found just about anywhere from food trucks to gourmet cafés.
